After 50 years in the communications business, David McDonough leads a strategic communication advisory business based in the heart of Westminster, having founded and chaired Sanctuary Counsel since its launch in 2019, stepping down in December 2024.

McDonough Advisory provides discreet reputational and communications advice to private clients - typically company chairs and CEOs, prominent philanthropists, senior and managing partners of professional firms and successful entrepreneurs. All tend to be seeking to expand their reputational wingspan, including opting into public life, deepening their involvement in philanthropy and engaging more actively with academic and policy institutions.

In advising his clients, David is able to draw on an extraordinary pool of expertise and experience from trusted friends and colleagues who are senior advisors of McDonough Advisory. Each are luminaries in their specialist areas: geopolitics, political analysis, brand strategy, the law, the US administration and the workings of the British body politic and British institutions.
